My idea for Blood Land came when I visited a plantation here in Maryland and my daughter saw a man in the window of the old plantation home. When we went to the visitor's center and asked how we get in the home, they said it has been boarded up for years because it is structurally unsound. My daughter and I looked at each and the man at the information desk said "you saw him, didn't you?" And the idea for Blood Land was born!

I wake up in the morning. Really, that's it. I love writing. It is like breathing air to me. Even if I am not working on a novel, I am writing copy for social media, an article for medium, or working on a blog post. I am always writing, always creating.

You have to write every single day! Do NOT worry about how the first draft will be. It will not be the best; that is what editing is for. But you can't edit a blank page! So, don't say you want to be a writer, be writing! Also, don't listen to anyone who says you can't do it and definitely don't think there isn't room for your book because there is!

Getting out into nature always helps me. I have to step away from my computer and my phone. Most times, I either go for a drive through rural areas or I sit in my backyard and light a fire in the firepit and watch my chickens graze.
