Todd Hosea I'd love to be a fly on the wall in the Mos Eisley cantina. Imagine the characters and stories you'd overhear.
Todd Hosea I recommend Jasper Kent's "Twelve" and David Seltzer's "The Omen." I'm not into horror books, but I stumbled upon both of these and loved them. The Omen instilled the love of reading in me. It scared the crap out of me. I love Russian history, and Jasper Kent did an excellent job weaving his Danilov characters into several of Russia's key moments in history.
Todd Hosea Steal the Reaper started with a simple image in my head involving my main character, Ava (no spoilers). When I mapped out my first outline, this scene happened it Chapter 10. By the time the book was completed, this scene occurred in Chapter 44. The story really grew around that one scene and by thinking what happened before, during and after that scene helped me craft the book as a whole.
Todd Hosea I just started the sequel to Steal the Reaper.
Todd Hosea Just write. This is advice from John Grisham. Even if you only get one paragraph down, try to write every day. It all adds up and eventually you will reach your goal.
Todd Hosea My first recommendation is to just power through. Get something on paper and go back to it later. It doesn't have to be perfect, and may actually be discarded completely, but it can spark new and better ideas. Also, I walk away and go do something else when I'm struggling. Usually, I get away from my computer and hike or bike. Another option is to talk to others. They will probably see a scene completely different than you and that can spark new ideas.
