Chrissy Q. Martin This is a great question, thank you! I planned for Martha to be a book lover and initially thought she would be a retired teacher (as she's based off Dorothy from the Golden Girls). I only wanted the Golden Girls to be inspiration and not to be the characters in the book, and I knew I needed to vary Martha's character from that of Dorothy in the TV show. As I was writing the scene where Emma is at her house, I decided to make Martha an author. I thought it would be fun and slightly out of character for Martha to be a romance author. Most people wouldn't expect her to be a steamy romance author with a pen name. I also wanted Martha's backstory to have a little more depth and having her find a means of additional income to support her after a divorce was needed. I do love that Martha turned out to be an author, though she may write slightly different books than me.
Chrissy Q. Martin Thank you! I'm so glad you loved it. I adore these characters and would love to bring them back someday. At this time, I'm working on books in two other series, but I may come back to Running on Love & Donuts in the future. Reader interest encourages me, and I have ideas for some stories. A high school graduation reunion of the donut club might make a fun novella, and I have an idea for another summer vacation book with a side character. Let me know if there's a character you'd love to know more about.
