Being able to create your own world and for me that ought to be a beautiful world. I respect Stephen King and I admire his writing skills, but why live in these dark worlds in your mind all the time? It's also why I don't like most dsytopian sci-fi; why spend so much mental energy dwelling on the negative possibilities when there is so much beauty in the world?

I do research on a particular topic, in my case, that was the dangers of self-improving artificial intelligence. While reading "Our Final Invention" by James Barrat, I kept coming up with ideas for a superintelligence, secretely running the world.
However, my initial inspiration was the desire to write more optimistic science fiction and wondering how we could possibly solve many of the problems we're currently faced with.
