If I feel blocked I don't worry about it. I just go on to the next chapter or I take a break (a walk maybe). The missing pieces will come. They always do. Sometimes it just takes a day or so.

I was inspired to write The Comfort of Distance by my many experiences as a forensic anthropologist. In fact, all of the forensic elements in the book are based on my real cases. I the chose the setting (the Black Hills of South Dakota) because my wife and I visited there and I fell in love with it. My main character sufferes from AvPD because I also deal with that. So adding the mental health element was cathartics for me.
