At times, I sorely wish that I never got the idea for my recent book-that I never suffered from a mental illness at all. At the moment, I am thankful for the opportunity to share that hope exists even in the murkiest despair. Overall, the idea for the book was maliciously thrust upon me in the third grade.

I turn inward and gather information about the way that I feel. Bored? Tired? Panicked? Frustrated? Any emotion, or lack thereof, that I can pinpoint is a great catalyst for writing. If I'm feeling bored, I think of something boring...like a piece of grass. And then I challenge myself to perform the riveting task of convincing myself that I can write an entertaining bit about the dull blade basking in the blasts of the sun's inferno.
