Julie Pryke Hi Blessing,
I have tried a few methods. I made a few videos, have my own website, started a podcast, used local journalists and sold directly to friends. put info on Facebook.
Then before Christmas 2024 I brought a new book out, a children's novel, and rfeceived an offer to make apromotional video, which I accepted. It worked well to some extent as my immediate sales were higher, but because of other commitmeny=ts I was unable to follow it up further. This is my main problem as I have big commitments which take priority and so only limited time for promotion of my books. I am now hoping to use a bit more time in January and February to rectify this. - Well, you did ask!
Julie Pryke Jac looked in the mirror to see how her appearance had changed over time. To her disgust and revulsion, she could clearly see the maggots who had eaten most of her flesh and were now marching towards her last remaining feature, her eyes.
Julie Pryke I'd just grab my towel and travel with the Hitchhikers (Guide to the Galaxy) or to Discworld.
Julie Pryke I love thrillers where I can relate to both the goodies and the baddies i.e. I can understand what motivates their actions and comments and where the plot has a logic to it or follows on chronologically and develops from there. New to me this summer are the books of Angela Marsden. Whilst there may be more than one murder in the story there is a logical reason for this. The detectives have home lives and histories which play into the stories.
My favourite poet and illustrator - Chris Redell
Julie Pryke Thinking about what might excite a child on Christmas Eve.
Julie Pryke looking around, observing, listening, thinking what might happen next or what might be the alternative to what I observe.
Julie Pryke Children's poetry and nonsense rhymes
Julie Pryke Just go for it - don't be afraid - it's your work, it's original so you can't get it wrong - though some constructive criticism and/or editing from someone you trust might help. Read plenty of other people's work in the same genre.
Julie Pryke It is great fun, I write with an audience in mind - children of similar ages to my grandchildren - and I'm always looking for the least obvious ending - the twist in the tale.
Julie Pryke I just write a few key words, then go back to them and try to turn them into sentences, repeat turning into sentences - but usually before them the ideas have arrived. It's writing htings down which help for me.
