Amy de la Force Learn, learn, learn — and find your people. I went to uni and did some courses, but it doesn't need to cost big money: you can request books like Janet Burroway's 'Writing Fiction' to borrow so you can read, write and learn. Also connect with other writers, ideally in your genre, so you can share your journeys (and writing for trusted feedback) and support each other. It makes a massive difference, especially if you're in the agent querying trenches.
Amy de la Force In fantasy and speculative fiction, literally escaping reality to create a new one. Best part, hands down.
Amy de la Force For me, writer's block tends to happen when I feel like I don't know what I'm doing: in a scene, in a chapter, with a character, with a plot. I go back to basics and try to work out what I'm missing (I'm a planner, so this helps), and once I've fleshed out more details, what I usually find is the block disappears.
Amy de la Force My ideas are always a mishmash of the things I love, but my stories generally start with a fleshed-out character. Except for A KISS OF HAMMER AND FLAME — that book 100% ensnared me with its concept.
Amy de la Force Fated For Hael #2!
