I was in my late teens and my father came into my room and asked me to help him red-light the the furnace pilot light. We went down to the basement and were working on the old furnace when we heard footsteps above us in the kitchen. My mother was the only other person in the house in the time and since she had problems with her hip since childhood, walked with a pronounced limp. It could not have been her.

Seeing a project come to it's fruition. It can be a lot of work and frustrating for a while but once you tie up all the loose ends and are happy with what you've created, it's a great feeling.

I'm a big fan of the crime fiction genre. Many of my favorite authors use location as almost another character in their stories. I thought I could do the same with Buffalo and Western New York, a place with a lot of character in it's own right.

A couple of things inspired the story. Unfortunately, one was a murder/ suicide that occurred around the corner from my family's house when I was a pretty young. No one really said too much about it. It was an older couple that pretty much kept to themselves for the most part and the neighborhood was in shock when it happened. The second was the characters themselves. They were inspired by or composites of people I knew growing up I kind of combined the two themes to make one story.
