When I was in grade school, we were assigned to write a story. Once I started, I knew right away that I wanted to be a writer. For many years, I wrote about the people I interviewed as a journalist. Now, I have returned to writing fiction as well.

I worked as a journalist in South Africa under apartheid. The people I met there inspired me to write a novel about how young people were caught up in the turmoil of that period.
