Adam Colton Feedback. I also write songs, and when somebody says that anything I've written made them laugh or even feel sad this is the biggest compliment. When a friend said that a story of mine gave him nightmares I was over the moon ;-)
Adam Colton When I am not writing I am often proof-reading. The great thing is you get to read new books for free, so having released three novels in 2020, I'm having a break reading through a friend's non-fiction work on linguistics.
Adam Colton The best thing is to relax. A time always comes when the ideas begin to flow again. You just have to wait sometimes.
Adam Colton Don't think of writing as a big money maker, but do it to get your ideas out there. That way your original ideas will shine through in the writing, which may make your book more niche, but will also make it personally very satisfying.
Adam Colton My first books were travel books inspired by reading Bill Bryson and others. The inspiration for my fiction books often comes from dreams I've had. I particularly enjoy writing dream sequences and surreal scenes as there are simply no rules!
Adam Colton A lot of ideas in my novels come from dreams. My latest book is a kind of '1984' with teenagers and perhaps a satire on just how much technology reveals about us to the powers that be. We are talking silicon chip brain implants here! I wanted the book to include current concerns from the coronavirus outbreak to climate change and then thought I perhaps needed a comedy character to break up the serious parts. The result: a multi-genre book perhaps!
