For aspiring writers I would say start writing about your passion. It does not matter if you don't have the book planned out when you first start, just start writing. I found that as my book was evolving, I changed it many times. Writing a book is a journey so enjoy it.

During my three week stay in a rehabilitation centre for FND, I came to the realisation that my teaching career was coming to an end. This made me feel sad but I was encouraged by the nursing staff to think about another goal that I could achieve after leaving the hospital. As an 'off the cuff' remark, I stated that I would write a book. I wanted to help other people who were in the same situation as myself.

I am a FND sufferer and before I was diagnosed the medical profession made me feel very isolated and worried. The general practice doctors kept coming up with various diagnoses that did not fit my symptoms, such as a lipoma (a fatty mass) and I even had one doctor almost tell me I was making up my symptoms. Eventually due to seeing a retired senior doctor, who was working to cover another doctor, I was sent to a neurologist. Within a short time of that visit, I was diagnosed with FND.
The neurologist sent me to a rehabilitation centre to learn more about my disorder and how to manage it. During this three week stay I realised that there were many people who were experiencing the same treatment that I had. This is how I become committed to help other people.

I am currently working on the second book in the series Demelza and Corentyn. Although living with FND will be included there will be a more in depth understanding of how it affects other people
