I woke up late on the morning of the 29th, my thoughts groggy from a restless sleep. My body was weak and my stomach begging for food, so I opened the cereal--hundreds of spiders poured from the box onto my hands, arms, neck... face...

I take a break, go for a walk, do some reading, anything to get away from that corner I find myself in. I spend a lot of my waking hours also thinking about what comes next.
For me, inspiration and discovery don't always come behind a screen. They're usually the result of my distracted mind in the midst of another task or (unfortunately) while falling asleep.

Find something to enjoy in every step of the writing process.
For me, writing is fun and easy. I love discovering the story my characters have within them. Revising and editing, however, is a slower and more painful process. It's not that I don't enjoy what I'm reviewing, I just wish I were still writing and learning more about the world and the story. If I didn't take pride in the final product, I would push revision to the side and that step would never be completed.

I am nearing the end of my first revision round for the second book in the Draz'Khasha Chronicles: Lost Within. I have also spent a bit of time working on a stand alone novel, currently titled "Schism".

A lot of my inspiration for specific events comes from the setting I create. Once I know where the characters live, I can better understand the ways they spend their time and the types of situations they could find themselves in.

I was listening to the song "Reptile" by Periphery, and became inspired to create a Dungeons & Dragons campaign about an alien invasion. The more I developed the story, the more I came to love it. Eventually I dropped the guise of a campaign and found myself nursing the beginnings of a novel.
