Tim Maddox I have a few projects over the fire going into 2026. I can name two right now. One is a fairy tale adaptation of "East of the Sun and West of the Moon" set in the same world as "The Tale of Snow White & Rose Red", while the other is an original four-part fantasy novella series called "The Hammer of Fate".
Tim Maddox I go for a walk and revisit an old scene or even change which story I'm working on. That lets the current block get chipped away by the subconscious while I walk with my characters.
Tim Maddox I remember getting the idea for Forest Flight during one of what I call my "Jack London" challenges, where I sit down and write a new story for an hour. These were always unprompted, and so I spent a few minutes trying to picture a scene. The scene by the brook came to mind, and though the story now is very different from that first session, that moment of visualization was the inspiration.
Tim Maddox Usually, I'll be thinking in a world I've already created or am creating and something a character does or the way the landscape looks pulls me into writing it out. In those moments, I am as much discovering as I am chronicling the experience.
Note: this has left me with a ton of incomplete story ideas and threads.
