Hi, Janet. I don't have a question. I just wanted to let you know that I love books about people hiking the Appalachian Trail. It would love to be that brave, but I'm not, so I hike vicariously through books. I hope to win a copy of your book or purchase it when it is available. Have you hiked the Appalachian Trail?

Janet Ake Hi Beverly, thank you for your interest in my book. I, too, love books about the trail. Some of my favorites are: On the Beaten Path by Robert Alden Rubin, The Wonderful Wilderness of Awes by M.E. Hughes, and of course, Bill Bryson's A Walk in the Woods. My husband (trailname Allday) and I began doing sections of the AT in 1999. When we both retired in 2003, we started at Springer Mt. in Georgia and hiked into Virginia. The next year we went to Maine, climbed Katahdin, and then hiked south. So we've done both "ends" of the trail but not the middle. In 2010 and 2012 we hiked sections of the PCT in California.

I hope you will find the courage to do some hiking. There are many hiking clubs, some that are for women only, that would welcome a new hiker. Being outdoors is good for the soul, as Ariella finds out on her hike. Thank you again for asking and being interested in Her Beautiful Mind.
