The current world we live in, just in the past, before cell phones and the internet. A simpler time where people interacted in a meaningful way.

How two people can look at the same event and come up with two completely contradictory conclusions. There simply is no truth any more. Just points of view.

I am constantly reading so whatever book comes up in rotation. John Grisham, Stephen King, Carl Hiaason, Chuck Klosterman, Malcolm Gladwell or a thousand others. Intrigue me with your premise and I am in.

I haven't had writers block, per se, but I have had frustration at not being able to get out the images in my head. It's frustrating. So I just skip forward and write about something I know I have the skill to-- dialog, or something else. I come back to the skipped parts on another day. If I keep coming back and still can't solve my problem, then I guess I have to rewrite the scene in a way that fits my skillset. I will cross that bridge when I get to it.

The sense of accomplishment. Holding the book in your hand and saying, "I did this." It is really humbling and fantastic.

Stop making excuses and get the words out. Sit down and write for an hour a day. Just do it. Make it important. After a month it will be a habit. Then you won't be able to stop.

I am currently writing a new novel. It isn't a sequel to "jester's run" but a couple of the characters from my first novel do make a reappearance. It's a completely different story, and it's mostly about how parents really don't know what is going on in their kids' lives. It's emotionally traumatic, and dark and hopefully creates tension and fear of a psychological nature. I hope I am up to the challenge.

I wish i had a good answer. Writing makes me happy, and that's all the inspiration I need. I need a creative outlet. Stand-up had always been my outlet, but Covid made that less accessible, so to keep from going crazy I decided to start putting thoughts down on the computer... and now I can't stop.

My most recent published book, "How to Fail at Stand-Up Comedy" came to me very organically. I thought to myself, all these books about comedy tell you how to succeed, but they never really go into all the mistakes you will make along the way. Those mistakes are the things that are most damaging. It doesn't matter how funny you are, if you are a real screw up, your career will end before it begins. That was the seed, and the book sprang life from there.
