I also have to say that I'm really impressed by your need for "meaning" & then choice of nursing, as I definitely feel (& felt, bk when I was in college changing my major every other day!?!) the same. Hi Eric! Wow! You talk @ envy-ing (my grammar correction says there's no such word, but I hope you catch my meaning!) someone's life story--and that's just This far...! Ha!ha! Seriously, though, I too, am a critical care nurse, who due to a severe work injury had to quit after just under 20 yrs. of a "bit of everything" type of work history. Did you choose nursing due to the ability to travel and write or the reverse?
Eric Dorsey Well hello Angela! Oh no, I’m so sorry to hear you were injured at work! I’ve had a few close calls with violent and/or confused patients, but managed to dodge that bullet so far. I do know a few nurses who were not so lucky – simply too common!

I have always loved to write, and certainly the bones of My Father’s Indian percolated for years, but I honestly never dreamed I’d buckle down and produce a finished product. So to answer your question, choosing nursing was definitely a lifestyle choice with time to write simply a distant bonus! In truth my biggest driver in pursuing nursing was striving for meaning, as working in finance drained the life out of me. Now I’m offered the opportunity to touch someone’s life on a daily basis. It’s a remarkable career.
