Firstly, and I couldn't tell you exactly why, but I've always admired individuals who chose to serve the public in the capacity of law enforcement, fire fighting, and joining the military.
Secondly, I've always been fascinated by crime, so I thought, why not include some mention of crimes, what's going on in the world, and sometimes how being a victim of a crime feels.
Finally, I fell in love with a couple of book series that followed individual characters in each book but told a complete story about everyone in the family or friend group. Auryn Hadley/Kitty Cox wrote a series called Gamer Girls, which followed different characters through their common issues and individual struggles. Faleena Hopkins writes a series called the Cocker Brothers. I loved how her books followed a family throughout the years.

My imagination runs wild. I used to talk to friends about all the ideas I had for great stories. Finally, after hearing that I should write it down, or that they would definitely read that, I decided to give it a shot.
Sometimes I can literally see everything happening. In a perfect world, I could plug a cord into my brain and it would just all come out as a book, but alas, I need to actually type the thing out.

Firstly, remind yourself that everyone who writes gets it. There are several ways I deal with it: research your next idea, write another book for a while, and if that doesn't help, go find a great book to read or a show to watch and try again later. For me, the most important thing was to not to sit and stare at the screen trying to force the words to come, because when they didn't I felt even less motivated about my story.

The best thing about being a writer is watching your creation come to life and hear about how you've entertained someone else with the story.

Write as often as you can about anything. The point is to keep writing. You might end up like me with several works in progress (WIPs) that aren't close to finished, but I've also published one book, with 2 in a completed draft format. Don't give up.

I'm currently trying to complete Book 2 of my Legacy in Blue series. I also have a couple more items in the works and will be publishing a YA book under my other pen name (Katya Raemore) sometime before the end of 2020.
