Lee Prescott thanks for asking. I always like to have a look at where folks don't like something that I've enjoyed and vice versa. It's always good to maybe see something new through other folks eyes that I didn't see.

"Oh snail, climb Mount Fuji, but slowly, slowly": Your title caught my eye because it reminded me of this piece of wisdom. Is it what you had in mind, too, or am I barking up the wrong mountain? I'm not sure of the origins – I vaguely remember it from J.D. Salinger's Franny and Zooey.
Lee Prescott Sorry, have only just seen this. It's probably the most common refrain that you'll hear from the local folks in Nepali when hiking. Bistare bistare - slowly, slowly is their advice on how to take it. Its also to do with my sedate walking pace. Thank you very much for asking.

Dear Lee, Thank you for liking my review of 'Touching the Void'. You look very outdoorish. Much the same as my brothers, they are fully signed-up members of the woolly-hat brigade. I'm a scaredy-cat and only venture as far as the green rolling hills of the Emerald Isle. Take care in your venturing?

I'm sorry that photo is misleading. I do love to swim, but I'm not a diver at all. I also did not take the photo, I should change it to something of my own. I love the mountains, but I am also a keen diver and love the ocean, so your profile picture with damselfish (I think?) intrigued me. I thought your review of 'The Way of the 88 Temples' was very good - it's on my list for my next batch of things to read.

Thanks for liking my review of Lee's classic, Lee - it's not often I get them, let alone from a published author. I'm afraid I'm not much of a mountain climber, although I did clamber carefree up Mt Kenya one sunny day in the early 90s only to spend the night near the summit as my tent sagged under the weight of snow in a raging blizzard. Mere child's play, I suspect, beside your adventures in the high Himalaya?

not at all! I'm only a trekker, not a mountaineer. I hiked up to point Lenana in 1997 and it was a tough climb. It was well worth it to see the sunrise over the African plains. Did you climb up the rock pinnacle to the summit itself? That looked a daunting vertical climb.

I appreciate your "Like" of my review of "No Picnic on Mount Kenya". I can see by your profile and picture that your the sort of chap who, given the same circumstances, might very well have broken out of a POW camp to climb a mountain? Cheers, David Rudin
Lee Prescott Brilliant! Thanks David. I have trekked to Point Lenana on Mount Kenya but I can't claim to have broken out of any sort of incarceration to do anything similar just yet.

Lee...you made a comment on my review re Alan Davies' memoir & I note you are an accomplished writer yourself. I lived many years ago - hace muchos años en Madrid - un muy poco entiendo sobre el camino solamente en eso dias, pero... & I lived many years in Japan where I became aware of its equivalent - the 88-temple pilgrimage around the smallest of Japan's 4 major islands - Shikoku - 1200 km. Do you know it?
Lee Prescott Hajimemashite y mucho gusto Jim. I don't know that pilgrimage but it sounds intriguing. I had a go at learning Japanese a long time ago and about all I can remember is 'takushi de noriba'! But Japan has always held an interest for me - in particular Hokkaido. If you know of any good books on the Shikoku pilgrimage please let me know.
