Michael Talledes Writer's block can make you as a writer feel, for lack of a better word, amateur. This is not true. Every individual deals with this issue differently with no one answer being the solution. How I deal with writers block is by walking away and going to do something else. Whether I'm driving, at work (bad to say), having dinner, etc., I think along the way and eventually find my footing.
Michael Talledes The best thing about being a writer is there are no limitations or boundaries. The opportunity to create a world, story, characters and so much more is endless. Even if an editor or publisher does not think your work is the appropriate fit for their publication, your story is your own and nobody can take it away from you (*unless you stole the idea from previously published work :p).
Michael Talledes Just make it happen. Rejection IS going to happen and it's going to be very discouraging. However, if you really enjoy writing and want it bad enough, you'll find a way to get your story to readers.
Michael Talledes My inspiration to write comes from many avenues: My family, the opportunity to entertain readers and simply writing what comes to me naturally. For many years, I always had stories, ideas and thoughts just come out of the blue. To be honest, I use to think something was wrong with me. In actuality, I just have a creative mind. Writing is also an excellent opportunity for me to block out the rest of the world, sit in my own comfort zone and hopefully create something special for at least one reader to enjoy.
Michael Talledes I would be divided between the magical world of Harry Potter and the great galactic wars of Star Wars! Both fictional worlds played such a large part of my upbringing and really taught me how to imagine and think creatively. In third place I would definitely say the world Mr. Michael Crichton created--Jurassic Park!
Michael Talledes My idea for "No Road to Tokyo" came about when I completed a half-marathon run in Fall of 2019. I have a passion for long distance running and thought to myself, "How cool would it be for something really sinister to happen to a runner during the course of a run?" In Toronto, the Scotiabank Waterfront Marathon took place and it also played host to elite runners who were preparing to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. With all of these ideas in mind, "No Road to Tokyo" became an idea.
Michael Talledes I am currently working on the preliminary research and planning of my first novel. To date, most of my writing projects have been short stories and flash fiction. Most recently, I completed and published a novelette on Apple Books--"No Road to Tokyo". I am hoping by Summer, latest Fall of 2021 to have this piece completed.
