I am also a teacher and a mother and my life is full and busy. I will always want to be working with students in schools, as I see my books as tools to talk about the important themes which they explore. I don't have a high-flying writer life as I am not famous - but even if I was, I would still want to maintain the balance of writing and connecting with people and of course, being a mother is all in the balance, all of the time!

There is a great book by Julia Cameron called The Artists' Way - I found that had some helpful exercises. I often write whilst listening to music (Einaudi is a favourite!) and knowing that not everything has to be written - you can also do voicenotes!

Your ideas are worth working on. Never feel like there are already too many books in the world already - the fact is, YOUR book is not yet in the world and it will be different and amazing! It just all needs work, so don't be afraid of the hard work you need to put into the process.

Going for a walk is a good inspiration - especially in a forest! Or sitting by the sea. I don't live by the sea anymore so I need to make more effort to go to the ocean! I find movements (car, train, bike, plane etc) is helpful for ideas but walking of course is the easiest way. I take my phone to record any ideas I have afterwards.

I'm currently writing the first book of a middle-grade adventure series! It's all about family relationships, near-diveristy and lots of traveling around the world!
