Susie Baggaley This can be answered in 2 parts.
1. I visited India in the late 1980's and was awestruck with the architecture, the vastness of the sub-continent and the culture, but horrified at some of the injustices of my own country during Colonial rule.
2. I met an elderly English lady who had lived in India in the 1930's and she relived some of her experiences for me. When I visited the areas which she had talked about and photographed (in full colour) her home/hospital/church where she had not only worked as a doctor but helped build this first Presbyterian church, she was so grateful. Many years later this experience formulated an historical novel plot in my head and CALL ME MAC came alive.
Susie Baggaley I belong to a book group and the novels we read vary from the superb to the appalling and I am always amazed that some novels managed to get published purely because of who the author is, or what contacts they have in the industry. This makes me angry and even more determined to put my own writing talents to the test, which gives me the impetus, on down days to get inspired to carry on. If you are confident about your plot, your writing ability and the market you are aiming at - GO FOR IT!!
Susie Baggaley Book 2 in the CALL ME MAC trilogy. I hope to have this novel in the series published in October 2021
Susie Baggaley The astonishment at the character leading me in directions I didn't know I wanted to go. I can start the morning with a plan for the plot and by the evening find that I have taken a completely different and much better direction for the protagonist and her associate characters. I love this work. I am effectively working at my hobby and it is great!
Susie Baggaley I belong to a book group so many of my chosen summer reading is through this route. I will update this as and when I become aware of the books chosen, but I have recently read the following:
American Dirt/Where the Crawdads sing/Daughters of Spain/Those who are loved/Last Days of the Bus Club
