R.G. Swett It started as a personal experience I had with sleep paralysis and the feeling of not being alone in my room during the episode. I made a tabletop rpg monster based on that then created a fantasy protagonist teen to experience it in another world.

Find a trusted friend to read excerpts to and be a sound board - someone you can ask 'What do you think happens next?' They won't give you direct answers but they give you a perspective shift that can lead to some great plot developments.

I maintain several story threads, and when one starts to slow down or stagnate I hop to a different one to cleanse my palate.

I stop and read the project from the very beginning, by the time I get back to where the block happened I have often found new momentum and enthusiasm for the story.

I open a separate document and push ahead with a thousand or so forced words knowing the content might never make it into the story but often am able to dig out enough gems to get back on track.
