Seeking Shadows was inspired on the day Earth's population hit 7 billion (I think this was in 2011). I remember watching the news; people were either freaking out about Earth's limited resources, or they were absorbed in researching the key to a longer life. These two outlooks just didn't mesh together for me, so I threw the ideas into a sci-fi fantasy world, and Seeking Shadows was born!

I read scientific articles and the news. Sometimes a story comes up and I think "what would happen if you pushed that to an extreme?" or "what would it be like if you twisted that singular detail?" The story that comes out of that usually ends up as either a piece of science fiction or an epic fantasy. Once I have an idea, I write it down in my book idea notebook so I don't forget and can refer to it later.
