Rich Elvers My new book, The Adjuster. It's a dark comedy that feels like the lovechild of Douglas Coupland and Chuck Palahniuk, two of my biggest influences in general.
Rich Elvers Getting lost in the world I'm creating and feeling like my characters are real people. When that happens, every time I sit down to write is like hanging out with my friends.
Rich Elvers I usually don't get writer's block. I have a few ways of dealing with it:

1) Just WRITE. Anything. Nonsense, gibberish, editing or rewrite the previous day's work or just write the character doing something random. It usually comes to me.

2) Music. For every project I choose 2 or 3 movie soundtracks that match the tone of my project and I play them while I write and while I brainstorm and just try to picture the character or world. Music inspires a lot of full scenes or ideas.

3) Go for a walk and think about the story.

4) Figure out if the block is because something is wrong with the story or scene I'm working on. Writer's block for a lot of writers is a symptom of a subconscious or conscious awareness of trying to force something illogical or counter to a character's nature.
