When I was growing up in Russia, we had the Sherlock Holmes series that ended with Professor Moriarty pushing Holmes off a cliff, where he presumably dies. In the West, there might have been a sequel to this detective story, but we didn’t have access to it. Not knowing that there WAS a sequel and that there might be a happy ending was unbearable!
Therefore, throughout my childhood and adolescence, I was obsessed with the idea of stepping into that final scene with evil Moriarty and changing the terrible ending. And I still am.
