From my blog! I wanted to use my experiences from the last 5 years and squeeze the juice from it - making the best book I could with some of the most interesting people I'd met, and some new faces you hadn't yet gotten to know. I feel like the process of having interviewed 180 people on the blog helped me to really understand what I was looking for and individuals who might not be famous, but to me were really interesting. I also photographed it which is something I still don't feel wildly confident about - luckily I had a great photo editor and my book designer curated many of the final layouts, incorporating the best imagery. We negotiated it over a spreadsheet remotely and I am really proud of how it turned out. It doesn't even feel like my own work!!

Reading, and also watching clips of my favourite creators on YouTube. I also can be inspired by a person or a event happening to me in life.

Filling up the petrol tank! After 5 years blogging on www.theresidents.co.nz and writing, researching and photographing a book over the past 2 have left me high and dry. So I am looking to read more books, take some Masterclasses and find new advice and inspiration. Then I am hoping to begin work on the first draft of something new in 2021 with a goal to publish in 2022. I like to move fast.

Find people you look up to as creatives and understand how they get things done. I personally look up to Austin Kleon, Patti Smith, Todd Selby and I adore the book by Elizabeth Gilbert 'Big Magic'. I feel like once you know which signs to look out for, when something unwittingly is going to derail you, you're better equipped to look it in the eye and say 'AHA! Not today!!'. Confronting your fears is one of the biggest parts of being a 'successful' creative. To me, success is getting it done.

Having two lives. My normal life and then the life I create through words. I would also say the people I've met have been incredible and being able to serve them through my work is the BEST!

Two things - set a time to actually do it. Make a deadline for yourself. Second, have a friend who will hold you to account, and send a text to you to nudge you into writing the chapter or post for her. I find that more than anything, once I start writing, it simple flows. Starting is the hardest part.

Once a girl fell into a giant rubbish tip, full of dust, decay and odorous smelling waste. She tried to swim out, but she suffocated and drowned.
