I was recently at a writing conference in my hometown, and someone knocked on our door and told one of the attendees that there was a murder suspect loose in their area. The conference was taking place in a beautiful historic mansion and of course, we were all terrified. Immediately, everyone whipped out their phones and soon found Reddit and other rumor mill sites claimed the suspect was actually a serial killer (for real!) Long story short....it all turned out to be fake news, but I think "serial killer stalks writer's group in an old southern mansion" would make a great plot.
