Robert, Congrats on the upcoming release of your first novel. How long did it take to complete your final draft? Did the basic story live inside of you long before you set out to get it down on paper?

Robert Gwaltney Kathleen, the novel was inspired from another novel I began to write some years ago. The protagonist was a boy who had a very interesting mother. The mother's voice took over, and I began imagining what she must have been like as a girl. That was the beginning of The Cicada Tree. Overall, the novel took about five years to write--taking breaks and putting it to the side along the way.
