Lorraine Brown It helps if I've watched a good TV series or film, particularly if the dialogue is realistic and believable. I also feel inspired by people on buses and tube trains (I live in London!) and often listen in on their conversations and try to work out what's going on for them. If I feel stuck, I go for a walk to clear my head, or listen to another author being interviewed on a podcast - my favourites are The Downtown Writers Jam, The Honest Authors Podcast and The Brit Lit Podcast.
Lorraine Brown I was very inspired by the film Before Sunrise, written by Richard Linklater - it's the perfect, simple love story: two people meeting on a train and taking a chance on each other. I combined that with a story my brother had told me once: he and his girlfriend actually were separated on a night train in Eastern Europe and ended up in different places! Everything turned out fine for them, but it got me wondering: what could have happened in that time they were apart? What could have changed by the time they met again?
