I don't believe in writer's block. Writing, as is true with any other profession, is a discipline that gets easier with time and practice. A writer who is "blocked" simply has nothing to say at the moment. That's fine. Stay silent until you do.

Stop aspiring. Write or don't write. If you do, you're a writer. Next, share your writing with others. Writing is meant to be communicated. Communicate. Finally, don't stop. Perseverance is the key to success, whatever form that might take for you as a writer.

I was reading James McPherson's Battle Cry of Freedom, a short history of the Civil War, in which appears the true story of the rendition of Anthony Burns aboard a Revenue Cutter. The account is full of conflict and controversy, which always makes for a good story. I wondered how I would have responded to the same situation. Out of that wondering came an idea for a novel.
