Way back in 1992, I was fresh out of high school and on my way to college. During that time, I designed and wrote one of the main characters of the story. Years later, I wrote comic books featuring the character but never disclose his origin. Not only writing "Outlanders: Malefactor, First of the Fallen" allowed me to divulge what I wrote all those years back, but it also allowed me to create a whole universe that will serve as a starting point for several other future works.

For me, writing is not a hobby; it's a need. Even if I don't publish, every single story I've written is a much-needed outlet for my creativity.

The follow-up for my first book, Outlanders: Malefactor, First of the fallen. As excited as finally having my first book published, I'm thrilled with the new material I'm currently working on.

I've read that before you even consider writing a book or a series, you need to find out the demographics and have this preconceived notion of who you are writing for and follow a set of parameters to cater to that demographic. I think that's a very effective way to stifle your creative process. In an interview, James Hetfield said that he does not approach songwriting for a new album as an established theme where he would conceive 12 songs that fit into it. I have the same approach to writing. Write about what you know, what inspires you to write, but also research history. If you are writing mythical beings, read about creation myths. History tends to repeat itself, even in your make-believe world.

As a writer, you can experience freedom from exploring an endless array of worlds and pragmatic characters. For me is like therapy. I sit behind the keyboard and bleed. I pour my aches, pain, and joys and present the errors that we are making as members of society. Furthermore, I believe that we can do better. My way to single out things that I think are askew within our society is through subtle but strong messages, even if fantastic characters voice those messages.

I do not obsess with it. I clear my head by walking and concentrate on my breathing. The answers you seek often come when you least expect them.

The sinister shadow that had skulked scraped and haunted the dark walls of my bedroom for as long as I remember now looms over my body. Its cold osseous fingers press against my chest, causing its necrotic claws to dig deep into my flesh, awakening me from my usual sleep paralysis only to whisper in my ear, "If we are to survive the evil coming, you need to wake up and go with me."

I'm currently researching for the next installment of the series. I wrote a five-page synopsis for the first one. For the second one, I got 48 pages and counting. So in terms of reading, my list for this year is going to be a bit short.
I'm looking forward to reading the Lunar Chronicles boxset I haven't opened yet, Kristen Ciccaelli's The last Namsara, series, finishing the Sarah Maas Throne of Glass series, and I recently acquired the complete H.P. Lovecraft collection. I look forward to revisiting it.
