Joe Kelly I don't really get write's block. I have multiple books on the go, so if I get stuck in one book, I work on one of the others. I don't have time for writer's block. Sometimes I just don't want to write, so I don't, but when I want to write I can crank it out.
Joe Kelly I get to create my own rules for MY universe. And I love it when I hear readers tell me how much they are enjoying my series.
Joe Kelly Never give up. I've had many challenges as a writer when I first started writing. The first was, if I really wanted to be a writer, I had to learn how to type. And always remember, although it is a 'lonely' journey, you are never truly alone, their are other writers out there (physically or via internet) who will help you on this journey. You just need to reach out.
Joe Kelly Currently I'm working on the fourth book of the series: The Mercenary Agenda. It's about how ex-mercenaries form a group to go after their fugitives with SWAT tactics. Taking on Alien fugitives makes some of their cases challenging.
Joe Kelly I'll answer this in two ways.
What inspired me to write? It was the death of Yvonne Fletcher. a police officer who was only doing her duty when she was ruthlessly cutdown by members of the Libyan Embassy. I didn't like the idea of Diplomatic Immunity and I ended up creating a universe where diplomats can be held accountable for their actions.
How do I get inspired to write? I know I have deadlines with my writing groups, so if I have to sit down and crank out 20 pages, that's what I do. It's a matter of having a deadline and getting it done. I also have a sign up in my office which is a quote from Ed McBain 'Just git it done' And I do. It's a command, with no room for argument.
Joe Kelly For my most recent novel, The Hunt Begins (Files From The IFRA) I wanted a slight Western feeling. Unlike the other agents who are more like undercover agents, these characters are more the gunslinger type who live by the gun, so how they deal with local law authorities is different than their counterparts.
