Jon Ring Already did that. "The Open Door" was based off an event in my own life. The damn downstairs door just wouldn't stay shut, and nobody ever knew why.
Jon Ring I have little flashes, just kind of appear, I can see or read something, or be listening to music and it gets my mind racing. I keep a notepad in my back pocket, and whenever I get the idea I jot it down for later. Sometimes the idea is complete, sometimes it's not, but just writing it down, just the concept can ingrain it into my head. It can bounce around, growing there until it's ready to be put to paper.
Jon Ring I've always wanted to, and have done so privately for years, but never seriously. Other things kept coming up, some important like marrying and raising a family or running my business, and some not so important, time wasters pretty much. Then my dad died. I was going though his things and saw how much he still had wanted to accomplish and now that none of it will happen. It deeply affected me, beyond just my sorrow at losing him and made me look at myself and what I wanted to do before I'm gone. Pretty morbid, huh? On the plus side it lit a fire under me that I don't think will ever be quenched now. Now I need to write, literally have to in order to function properly. And I'm ok with that.
Jon Ring Sequel of sorts to The Dreadful Call, another collection of short stories. I prefer the short story form to any other, especially weird fiction. I love Ambrose Bierce's thoughts on the matter, and have a similar view, though perhaps not as vehemently however. This new collection will be a little different however, a little more horror and little less fantasy.
Jon Ring Write. Talking about doing it does nothing but make you seem shallow and vapid. So write, write often, edit the hell out of it, and then get it published so others can see what you have done.
Jon Ring The feeling of creation, of sharing something very personal and very much myself with others. To hear someone else has enjoyed my work is probably one of the best feelings I can ever have.
Jon Ring I edit instead:)
Jon Ring He took the stiff drink eagerly, like a parched animal left in the heat. The liquid suffused throughout his body, but something was very wrong, an unexpected something that changed the very fiber of his being.
Jon Ring Several myths and legends nonfiction series, more Basil Copper, Frank Belknap Long, Stephen King, Hawthorne, Henry James, many more...
