E.P. Clanton I was hiking through the forest and when I stopped to rest and listen to the sounds around me, I noticed a pinecone laying on the ground. I picked it up and started wondering how a pinecone so small, becomes one of the largest living things in the world. I Am Sequoia, A Pinecone's Adventure was birthed.
E.P. Clanton I'll try and keep a pad of paper and pen with me throughout the day and when ideas come to mind, I'll jot them down. This gives me some rough content to build upon later.
E.P. Clanton I can only give advice that helped me to write and illustrate my first children's book. First I identify my audience so I can speak the language of that genre and age group. I then begin what I call free writing, I don't worry about grammar or editing at this phase, I just get into a space I am comfortable with and write. Then after it's all put down and it looks like a jigsaw puzzle, I get busy putting it all together.
E.P. Clanton After reading I Am Sequoia, A Pinecone's Adventure to a group of about 30 children gathered in a class, one girl ask me an interesting question. She asked, I don't get it, how does a pinecone talk? My response was simple, that's the great thing about imagination, you can fly, breathe under water or make a pinecone talk.
E.P. Clanton I use the writers block as a template and create about 10,000 new blocks. I roll out my blue prints then get busy building my own personal writers studio.
E.P. Clanton There is a special place for this fictional book world. It would be in a small town, deep in the forested mountains where life is simple, the air crisp and clean. I traveled around with my old rusty wagon collecting scrap metal & old bike parts to build something super duper! It's will be called my super duper.....! Dang it, I ran out of ink!
E.P. Clanton I have been learning about the self publishing marketing world and I have to be careful how much content I devour or else I get brain freeze.
I started out excited about this journey of self publishing. While writing and illustrating
I Am Sequoia, A Pinecone's Adventure, l I hit a few walls, it was challenging but I had to learn how to celebrate the little wins.
I felt just like the little pinecone wanting to grow upward faster than is was taking.
Everything has its seasons and takes time. Patience is a virtue!
I created several formats: hardcover, softcover, eBook and now I'm working on an audiobook to enhance the experience. This will be interesting.
I hope you enjoy the adventure. E.P.Clanton
