My upcoming short story collection began in 2015 with a draft of a novel that was ultimately set aside, but one chapter from the manuscript stood out and eventually became the short story "A Penny Short," which is about a down-and-out recent college grad, sitting at a penny slot machine while trying to hide from her friends. From there on out, I began to write more stories about (mostly young) people who were facing life-changing moments from which their old lives could never be recuperated.
