Annette Purdey Pugh This is a good question! It's got me thinking, and, although I can't go into details, the question of the paternity of a distant relation. The people concerned are all now long gone, but it could certainly provide a foundation for a novel set in the early years of the twentieth century.
Annette Purdey Pugh I think the beat thing is to leave the work alone for a bit. Maybe write something completely different - eg autobiographical, where you don't have to think about a plot or plan. Then, when you come back to the original piece, read through it from the start, and you may find your ideas start flowing again.
Annette Purdey Pugh As a published writer, I'm very new indeed, so am just finding that out. Before that, as an aspiring writer, it was just the joy of creating stories and losing yourself in them.
Annette Purdey Pugh Keep going! I found the Creative Writing course I did very useful in making me focus on my writing, after many years of just thinking 'I wish I could be a writer'. It's never too late, as I think I prove, so don't give up!
Annette Purdey Pugh Quite a different sort of novel, set in Mid-Wales, where I live.
Annette Purdey Pugh With 'A Murder at Rosings', I was simply watching a re-run of the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, when I just thought what fun it would be to write a murder story around those characters! Otherwise, locations are important - eg I've always been inspired by old-fashioned seaside resorts.
Annette Purdey Pugh I've always loved P&P and was watching a re-run of the BBC adaptation (with Colin Firth et al) and suddenly thought it would be fun to write a murder story around some of those characters!
