Bringing a character to life with all their ticks and foibles, then hanging out with them. I love that part. I miss them when a book ends, but I can visit them by picking up the book.

Find something that bothers you or inspires you. Marinate on it. Vomit out all the details on a sheet of paper.
Then, if you have the courage, write about it.

I usually come across an issue that really bothers me or affects me.
The death penalty dilemma (Payback Jack)
Political corruption (Politikill)
Addiction (39: Your Last Birthday)
Child abuse (the upcoming Claws)
I need something that bothers me enough to commit to a year crafting a novel.

My forth book Claws. I want it to be a crap show in all the best ways.

I seldom deal with writer's block. I lay out every character and plot point in advance. I give each character a specific way to talk and act. And I plot out all the major turns.
So I just write to the plot turns I already have in place. If I feel the plot needs to change or if I have any pause at all, I go spend time with my favorite character in the book, they’ll lead me in the right direction.
