I love being able to escape from the stress of 'real life' by escaping into one of my books. I find it relaxing to be able to immerse myself in the story and having all the power to control what happens next is great fun fun!

I'm sure it's different for other authors, but for me, this one I seem to have very little control over. I can be doing something really mundane and all of a sudden a new book idea will pop into my head out of nowhere. I generally don't act on it right away, I let the idea bubble away for a while and develop in my mind before I start writing anything down.

To be patient and don't give up. The whole process of writing and selling books isn't easy and for most of us, success doesn't come overnight, it evolves slowly and organically over time. There is lots to learn, especially if you are self-publishing, so take the time to research what works and get to know other people in the book world. Making those relationships and connections is a massive help. Most importantly, enjoy your writing. If you love your book then it will come through on the pages and other people will too.
