One of my favorite books from childhood is The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles by Julie Andrews. She created a fantastical world that had me completely enthralled. I wanted to be right there with the Potter children, searching for and finding Whangdoodleland.

When my husband and I were dating, we went to his hometown in east Texas and he suggested a day trip to Jefferson. I had never heard of the town despite growing up in the Dallas area, just a few hours away. We went to the historical museum in Jefferson and there was a display case with a full-page newspaper article about Diamond Bessie. When I read the story, which was published in a Dallas paper in the 1930s about a murder that had happened some 60 years earlier in Jefferson, I was immediately intrigued and decided then and there that I would write about it.

I used to live in Marshall & did the ghost tour at Jefferson several times. I've been back in Kentucky for over a decade now but when I saw the title of the book I instantly remembered the name. I've entered the give-away but even if I don't win I will definitely be picking up a copy! This was a fun treat to run across!

Oh my gosh! Marshall is where my husband grew up. I haven't done the ghost tour but definitely want to do it sometime. There's a paranormal conference in Jefferson in the fall that I've been to. Very interesting. I hope you win the giveaway (Goodreads chooses the winners), but if not, I'm glad to hear you'll buy a copy! I spent years researching the story. Unfortunately there's so much wrong information about Bessie, but the rumors have persisted for more than 140 years. I'm hoping my novel will correct some of them. In the afterword in my book, I explain what's fact and fiction. Thanks for commenting and Happy New Year!
