Jody Hadlock One of my favorite books from childhood is The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles by Julie Andrews. She created a fantastical world that had me completely enthralled. I wanted to be right there with the Potter children, searching for and finding Whangdoodleland.
Jody Hadlock When my husband and I were dating, we went to his hometown in east Texas and he suggested a day trip to Jefferson. I had never heard of the town despite growing up in the Dallas area, just a few hours away. We went to the historical museum in Jefferson and there was a display case with a full-page newspaper article about Diamond Bessie. When I read the story, which was published in a Dallas paper in the 1930s about a murder that had happened some 60 years earlier in Jefferson, I was immediately intrigued and decided then and there that I would write about it.
