Amy Watson My Great-great-great uncle is a ghost. Seriously. He was murdered in 1931 while working on the railroad and not long after, a ghost light showed up in the spot where he was killed. It's one of the only ghost lights that has been recorded and not explained away.
Amy Watson The Paris of Laura Florand's "The Chocolate Thief" and "The Chocolate Kiss" and eat all the chocolate and eat all the pastry and wander around the beauty and romance. Its my favorite place I've ever been. Paris really is magical.
Amy Watson I have no idea. I don't plan ahead with my reading since I pick my next book based more on my mood than anything else.
Amy Watson Read everything I can get my hands on and research random things on the internet that I come across on Pinterest or Twitter. You never know where the inspiration is going to come from that gets your brain moving in the right direction again.
Amy Watson For me, it's definitely been writing's use as therapy. It's the one thing I do everyday that's just for me. It's replenishing and creatively nourishing. And I get to kill people, which is sometimes a really great thing for the stress in my real life.
Amy Watson Write. And find critique partners you trust. You need people understand what you're trying to do and who aren't afraid to tell you when something sucks.
And when it comes to querying, don't give up. It only takes one agent loving your book to change everything.
Amy Watson I'm working on revisions for my second novel and figuring out the plot for a third (and maybe a fourth). The second novel is very different from "Closer to Okay." It's a family drama that takes place in the Arkansas Ozarks in the late 90's. It's not based on my family, but the book is super-personal since it takes place in my home state and ties into my life in a lot of ways.
Amy Watson Before Covid hit, I wrote for at least an hour a day. I have to admit, the pandemic has definitely hurt my routine since I can't get to the coffee shop every morning to get my caffeine and quiet. I'm still almost constantly thinking about plot or revisions, though.
Amy Watson I was inspired by my own struggles with depression and anxiety. Writing "Closer to Okay" was a therapy of sorts since talking about my struggles helps me deal with them and look at them through a new lens.
