Glodean Champion That's a good question. I don't know that I have "mystery" in my life. There is the mystery of why I can't get rid of my menopause weight. And there's the mystery of hot flashes. I just don't know that it would make a very interesting read...unless I wrote it the way Stephen King wrote Thinner.

Or maybe a book about menopause gone wild. Except that would be more of a horror story than a mystery. 😂😂😂

Hmmmm...food for thought!

Thanks for the question.
Glodean Champion Hi Phyllis! Sorry for the delayed response! Yes, Salmon Croquettes explores the theme of LGBTQ. Not in a detailed way, but from the standpoint of a 12-year-old who is trying to sort out how she feels in her skin. She doesn't know whether or not she really likes girls, but she's certain she doesn't like boys. She's not a "girlie" girl and rebels against her mother's pressure to become one. I wanted the reader to be able to understand that being LGBTQ is not a choice or something someone is "traumatized" into. That it is a birthright (if you will), the connection between spirit and the physical body...and what happens when the two don't align as far as sexuality is concerned.

I hope that answers your question without giving too much away about the book.
Glodean Champion I read other writers. I go for a walk on the beach. The BEST way to inspire myself is to travel to a beautiful place and shut the world out for a few weeks. The words seem to come a lot faster when I'm in a foreign land.
Glodean Champion I'm working on the sequel to my current novel, Salmon Croquettes and a memoir about my mom that I'm calling "Tough Love: Sh*t My Momma Used to Say."
Glodean Champion Don't put pressure on yourself. There are various ways to be a "writer." If you're the kind of writer who is able to write every day - write every day. If you're not - write when it's best for you. There's no one size fits all, cookie cutter approach to writing. We catch those words when they show up. As long as you do that, you'll be fine.
Glodean Champion I don't know if there's a best thing. If I had to chose I'd say it's knowing I have the courage to show up to the page, open myself up and be vulnerable enough to write. It's liberating.
Glodean Champion I go find something else to do. I met Alice Walker once and I asked her that same question. She told me she got tired of chasing words with a butterfly net and decided it would be easier to busy herself with something else until the words returned to her. I tried it and it actually works!
Glodean Champion The idea came after watching a good friend hide her sexuality from her parents (and herself) for fear of what might happen if she were to come out to her family. It made me want to write a story about a young girl struggling with her sexuality at an age where it's harder to dismiss homosexuality as a choice.
