Mark P. Ryall I try to shift my mind in a completely different direction to allow for incubation. So if I’m struggling to write something, I’ll take a break and go for a jog, watch television, talk to a friend — just do anything to get away from the writing. The worst thing would be to sit there In front of the computer and beat myself up!
Mark P. Ryall Ten years ago, when the Human Genome Project was finished and CRISPR gene editing was just establishing itself, it was clear to me that our world was about to see amazing changes. The technology of genetic engineering was about to unleash itself!

I thought it was a good idea to learn more about this technology, then give it a go with my first novel. I got rejected by several New York publishers, so set the work aside for a few years. I'm sort of glad it sat on the back burner because the topic is even more salient today with the awarding of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry to Jennifer Doudna in 2020 and so many other related advancements.
