I had a reader (friend) come to me and say that she had taken one of the lines from my book as her life's motto. The idea that I can help, inspire, or entertain others is the best thing for me.

I'm working on a scifi series called Homesteaders. Earth sent out a generation ship and established a colony on a terraformed exoplanet. I was thinking about the next book and thinking about SETI. The idea came into my mind of how weird it would be if after all these years, the colonists in the Homesteaders series got a signal of some kind from a distant part of the planet. And, I was off and writing. That book is called, An Equitable Betrayal.

I always have a couple or three books going at the same time. If I get stuck in one, I shift to a different one. If that doesn't work, I start reading, looking for a particular tone or style that I'd like to emulate.

I've written a couple of narratives set in the Mennonite colonies in Russia. What incredible things they went through! I came across some journals of their experiences during the second world war and again was absolutely floored by the circumstances. Caught between two armies and two cultures, their survival is a testament to human resilience. I'm currently writing a narrative from the point of view of a Mennonite family based on these journals.

My wife and I lived in Haiti for three years, volunteered at a hospital in the Central Artibonite Valley. We had a host of wild adventures: real live (dead?) zombie come to the hospital, negotiating the revolutions, crazy funny cultural experiences, etc. My son had been after me for years to write them down. I finally did and thoroughly loved the experience. I haven't stopped writing since.
