The best thing for me is that I can create something from scratch which needs only myself and a laptop, or my iPhone, or sometimes just a piece of paper. A very simple process directly from my brain to a text document or paper.

To be honest, I try to not pressure myself to write or to write more. Sometimes I just wait a while until I feel free again to write, or in the mood, whatever you want to call it. In my case its the same with other stuff you work on, sometimes you need to do something else for a few days and then go back. For me that works quite well.

I have always a bunch of topics I'm doing research for. For my next book I'm currently researching on human trafficking and money laundering schemes. To get insider information on these topics, I'm in touch with people from INTERPOL and EUROPOL, as well as people from NGO's who engage in the fight against trafficking.

Many times my own experiences inpired me to write down and portrait what happened. But there are so many great books out there and I get a lot of inspiration from other authors and their books as well.

I collect bits and pieces of little stories at work when I'm on a mission, when I travel or in my leisure time. Much of it I just store in the back of my head or I write a quick email to myself on my iPhone to make sure I won't forget the important part.
