Hi Giovanna! That's a tough question. I like almost all Ghibli films but my favourite are probably Spirited Away, Nausicaa, Princess Mononoke, and Laputa: Castle in the sky. Laputa has the biggest Rebel Skies vibes I think!

No, in all seriousness, I think paper is cool and therefore paper magic, or in this case origami magic, is really cool. I wanted to write something that celebrated papercraft, but also a period in history that not manner Western writers talk about - the Meiji era. I also wanted to write worlds people could get lost in while interrogating themes of colonialism. Put all that in a mixing pot and I suppose you have Rebel Skies!
