Largely the news - magazines and online. A ton of tiny ideas, but it then takes work to incorporate them into a story. For example in my book The Careless Fraudster, the some of the inspirations came from reading about the world's most polluted places, and how solar power has transformed the opium trade.

It would probably be The Martian, and I would want to take my camera and take a ton of photo's that I could bring back to Earth.
