The book was written out of a need for more characters that resemble the students I teach. Some of the characters and events in the story are based on my experience as a teacher.

I write fiction the way I write screenplays. I think about the major events at the beginning, middle and end of the story. That's the road map. Then I figure out events and decisions that lead the MC to those points of the story. Once I know the outline, it makes the writing easier and the instances of writer's block less pervasive.
