The initial idea was spawned from a writing prompt on Reddit. Someone had suggested a Dungeons & Dragons type setting in a World War era of technology.
That concept made me think of how magic and technology would work together. From there, I started thinking about the kind of character I would want to have in that kind of world.

I tend to step away from the material for a while, and come back with a fresh set of eyes. I also listen to thematically appropriate background music while writing, it helps me to stay focused on the material at hand and block out distractions.
