If I'm stuck writing something, I try to move on to something else. A change of scenery, in terms of the world I'm writing about, can do wonders. Sometimes, it just a matter of putting fingers to the keyboard and getting anything out that I can. Even if it's a few words, anything on the page (screen) can get things moving forward.

I love being able to escape to different worlds. I also love being able to breathe life into the crazy, scary, wonderful ideas that are rattling around in my head.

It's critical that aspiring writers find an idea they're passionate about. Don't worry about what might sell, or what the new, big genre might be. Especially for aspiring writers who have trouble following through with an idea to the end, pick something you love and a world or story you want to keep going back to again and again. If you're not passionate about the genre or idea, then the readers will be able to tell. Many people have said to write what you know, and that's important advice. I would also add that's it's just as important to write what you're passionate about.

I use anything and everything I've experienced in my life, and I find ways to express them through writing. Many times, I sit down to write in order to work out feelings or ideas from my own life. Other times, I'm inspired to write in order to create something that I'd enjoy reading.

The idea first came to me imagining a woman trekking through the desert on her own. The image of her bravely making her way through this brutal terrain sparked me to find out why she was doing all of this. The novel came out of this one idea. It even sparked the artwork for the cover.
